Kyle Bellows Profile
Kyle Bellows hit one of Cleveland's two homers in a 10-0 win over Cincinnati in the Arizona Instructional League.
The third baseman, drafted in the fourth round in June out of San Jose State, played five innings and went 1-for-2. Giovanny Urshela replaced him and went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI.
Urshela, left-fielder Jordan Henry, catcher Moises Montero and right-fielder Jason Smit all had two of the Indians' 13 hits. First baseman Jesus Aguilar had a two-run homer.
The best news was on the mound, where four pitchers combined on the two-hit shutout.
Joe Gardner, the Indians' third-round pick out of UC Santa Barbara, had a sensational outing. The right-hander struck out seven over four perfect innings. He threw first-pitch strikes to eight of the 12 men he faced, needed only 47 pitches overall, and topped out at 93 mph on the radar gun.
Gardner did not pitch this summer after signing with Cleveland as the Indians wanted him to rest. The hard-throwing 6-foot-5, 180-pounder went 7-1 with a 3.40 ERA for the Gauchos this season, leading the team in nearly every pitching category, but was shut down with some tenderness in his elbow late in the college season.
Lefty Matt Packer them allowed one hit over two innings. He struck out two without a walk and topped out a 92 mph for his 24 pitches.
Lefty Kirk Wetmore walked one and fanned two over one inning. He used 18 pitches and topped out at 90 mph.
Right-hander- Nick Sarianides threw first-pitch strikes to all four men he faced, allowing one hit in the ninth. His top speed was 93 mph.
