| Named #18 on the Contra Costa Times’ “Cream of the Crop” list for 2005, Cameron is a running back
prospect. As a senior at Skyline High School in Oakland, Calif. (Coach Kevin Evans), he played running back
for the first time in organized football and rushed for 1,270 yards on 148 carries. He averaged 8.9 yards per
carry and scored 12 touchdowns in regular season play in 2005. In a playoff game, he added 237 yards and
four touchdowns to his season totals. The three-year football letterwinner played defensive end as a sophomore
and junior before getting a chance on offense. The three-sport letterwinner also lettered in wrestling and track
and field. Cameron reached the league finals wrestling at 160 pounds as a sophomore and 171 pounds as a junior.
An outstanding prep sprinter, he ran the opening leg on Skyline’s state championship 4x100-meter relay
team in 2004. Island was the Oakland Athletic League champion in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and finished
sixth at the 2005 California state high school championships meet. One of his second cousins is Brandon
Smith, a cornerback on the 2005 Sacramento State football team. Island is interested in becoming a firefighter.
