SEATTLE - Lorenzo Romar admitted it, as much as it may have pained him to do so: his team played pretty well in winning the Athletes in Action Basketball Classic this past weekend. William Jessup, or rather the basketball team representing WJ University, arrives in San Jose on Monday for a 7 p.m. Walt McPherson Court tussle with San Jose State. Scholarships for athletes aren't free, and the same rules apply for those who foot the bill - the athletic departments - as they do for the general population of students. If you reside outside California you pay more, a lot more. This can be a major hindrance when trying to recruit top talent. Our recent talk with SJSU Athletic Director Tom Bowen offers a possible solution.   Full Story

Moses Omolade is the big man San Jose State basketball coach George Nessman wanted, and got. Omolade recently signed a letter of intent to play for the Spartans, and Inside Sparta spoke with the New York native and his coach at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif.   Full Story

I was hoping for a .500 conference record and a win in the WAC tourney. We did not achieve either goal and I'm very disappointed there. The last month, when a good team turns it up a notch and plays inspired, smart basketball, it never came. There was serious regression, which has me concerned.    Full Story

Nessman in our viewpoint HAS to get this team to the .500 level, and anything less should not be tolerated by the fans, nor the SJSU Athletics administration (barring major injuries of course in 2009). SJSU has a good transfer coming in from the University of Washington, and will pair up very nicely with Justin Graham. Next year this team needs to improve and "git er done".    Full Story
