Faulkner Talks About Why He Choose SJSU
"I'm glad I did it," Faulkner said. "Winning a National Championship is much better than sitting on the bench. It all worked out perfectly."
Faulkner will now bring the experience of winning to San Jose State. After a recent official visit to the Spartan campus which included spending time with new SJSU head coach Mike MacIntyre and offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze, Faulkner realized it was his place.
"They are two awesome Christian men and great coaches," Faulkner said. "I got along with them very well, and the whole place had a great feel to it."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Faulkner had current offers from Western Kentucky along with Football Championship Subdivision schools McNeese State and Towson. He was also getting looks from Temple, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati. He went into more detail of why he chose to stay on the West Coach.
"I could see myself playing anywhere," he said. "Facilities are facilities, but all in all what matters is the people you're going to be around and it's the reason I'm coming to San Jose."
Faulkner described himself as a very accurate passer. While not a runner, he brings some of the intangibles an offense needs from its leader.
"As a quarteback I'm smart, and I bring the experience I need to take care of the ball," Faulkner said. "I can anticipate well, not many can do that. I can run if I need to, not a Pat White but if I need to tuck the ball and get a first down I can do that. I ran the spread in high school and at Mt SAC and it's what I'm most comfortable playing."
Faulkner will have two years to play two, and expects to compete right away for the starting position.
"Playing time is wide open," he said.
