Dawgs Wrap Up Season Against SJSU

Coming off of their first WAC win, San Jose State will look to get their first road win in the final game of the season for both Louisiana Tech and San Jose State.

Jordan La Secla threw for 154 yards and a touchdown and Lamon Muldrow rushed for 89 yards on just 17 carries last week as the San Jose State Spartans beat New Mexico State 13-10. Jalal Beauchman caught 4 passes for 83 yards and senior Kevin Jurovich caught his first touchdown pass of the season to help the Spartans improve to 2-9 on the season. Tiuke Tuipulotu intercepted his first pass of the season and helped the Spartan defense hold NMSU to just 51 yards through the air. Muldrow has rushed for over 500 yards and 3 touchdowns this year to lead the Spartan ground attack. Jurovich has 58 catches for 762 yards to lead the Spartan receivers. La Secla has completed 60% of his passes on the season for a total of 1746 yards. La Secla has thrown 9 touchdown passes and he has been intercepted 10 times. While SJSU is looking for their first road win of the season, Louisiana Tech is looking to get a win after losing five straight. It was the elusive road win that escaped the Bulldogs in four of those five contests. Louisiana Tech beat both Hawaii 27-6 and NMSU 45-7 earlier this season. Both games were in Ruston and the Bulldogs will look to have similar success on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Louisiana Tech Head Coach Derek Dooley has used 20 different freshmen players this year. Jordan Mills, Kevin Saia, and Stephen Warner have taken over starting spots on the offensive line to help block for fellow freshmen Tyronne Duplessis, Lyle Fitte, and D.J. Morrow as well as senior Daniel Porter. True Freshman C.J. Broades jumped to the scout team to the first team a frew weeks ago to take over for injured safety Antonio Baker. Chad Boyd, Javantay Crowe, and Quinn Giles are also true freshmen that have played in the secondary. Tech's five straight losses have included an eight point loss at LSU and a ten point loss at home to Boise State. Both teams were ranked in the top ten and the Bulldogs were able to compete for 60 minutes despite playing so many young players. The other three losses were even closer and all were on the road. The Bulldogs lost at Idaho, Utah State, and Fresno State by a combined 5 points. The close games will help the young players when they hit the field next season. Despite losing a few key starters, Coach Dooley only loses 12 seniors from this year's team. Dennis Morris, Daniel Porter, Deon Young, Antonio Baker, and D'Anthony Smith are the most notable seniors on the team. Other starters or key contributors are Ben Harris, Dustin Mitchell, Brian White, Kwame Jordan, and Adrian Logan, Shawn Simmons, and Thomas Graham. Baker, Young, Porter, and White have all been injured at some point this season, allowing younger players to step in and get experience. The most glaring hole to fill next year will be at defensive tackle. D'Anthony Smith is one of the top defensive tackles in the country and Adrian Logan has come on this year playing next to Smith. Freshmen Justin Ellis and Shakeil Lucas took redshirt years this season and will be needed to help veterans Mason Hitt and Ramone Randle fill the void. John White and Philip Longino will also be in the mix for playing time. Tech fans should come out to honor the seniors this weekend. Saturday will be a time to see the past one last time as well as take a glimpse into the future. Come out and see Porter and Morris make plays and Smith make tackles for the last time.
