The 2009-2010 San Jose State ice hockey schedule has been released. The Spartans begin the season with eight home-games before heading out for a six game road stretch.
The
San Jose State
Ice Hockey Club released their 2009-2010 schedule this weekend. The Spartans open the season hosting Loyola-Marymount on Sept. 25, then host arch-rival USC for two games the following weekend. SJSU will host 20 games this season, including six teams that finished in the top 15 in 2008-2009.
"I am happy with the way the schedule turned out," SJSU Hockey Club president Andy Dickerson said. "Late additions like UNLV (No. 9) and Texas Tech (No. 12) really bolstered our home schedule. We’ll be hosting three showcases and playing new opponents like Portland State, Northern Arizona, Utah Valley University, and University of Illinois."
Some traditional opponents dropped off the schedule this year for a variety of reasons. Only one team from Colorado appears on the home slate this season - Denver.
"Not getting three of the four top Colorado teams was the biggest disappointment in putting together this year’s schedule," Dickerson said. "[We] had originally planned to host four showcases, with one Colorado team in each event. Unfortunately, only Denver decided to make the trip."
Utah State and Eastern Washington are two other teams that won't be making the trek to San Jose Ice - the home rink of the Spartans. Both teams claim budget cuts as the reason.
However, it will be yet another exciting season for Spartan hockey fans. For the complete schedule please visit
