Marnesha Hall Has Put on the Miles to Achieve

From coast to coast to coast -- well, sort of with the latter -- Marnesha Hall has traveled extensively in order to make her basketball dream come true. She is from the San Diego area and headed to Florida to play community college hoops. Now she is coming to San Jose State to help out on the Spartan frontline.

Marnesha Hall is a 6-footer who performed as a jack-of-all-trades for Coach David Lane at Chipola College in Florida. Last season, she averaged 6.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds a contest with Chipola finished 30-6. The Indians won the the state championship (now four in a row) and advanced to the national tournament, finishing third. In that final game of the season, Hall scored 23 points (in 23 minutes) on 9-13 shooting to lead her team while also nabbing five boards in the win. In the previous national tourney contest for Chipola, she scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in 18 minutes of play.

By the way, Lane's teams also have a 100-percent graduation rate and of Lane's 2006-2007 graduates, two signed with Utah State and another with Fresno State so there's a history of his player coming to the Western Atheltic Conference.

In an earlier interview, Hall offered the reasons for her signing with Coach Pam DeCosta and San Jose State: "I like the team, I like the chemistry and I like the coaches a lot," she said. "I know that I can go in and make an impact."

Here's Lane on his protégé: "Marnesha did a good job for us. She's the kind of player who will do whatever it takes to succeed and really helped us out with her post defense. She was a captain as a sophomore, is very mature and just a great person."

Lane sees Hall playing more at the four spot for San Jose State.

Hall averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks per game during her senior season at Mount Miguel High School (San Diego) where she was named First Team All-League and led her team to a league and division championship.

Her coach at Mount Miguel, Robbie Sandoval, said this to Inside Sparta about his former player, "She's a great kid with a wonderful personality and very coachable. She gave us a lot of versatility defensively, playing the two, three and four spots. Offensively, she was a slasher who finished around the basket really well."

Coach DeCosta needs size and the addition of Hall will only aid a squad that was roundly out-shot and out-rebounded last season.
