Reports surfaced earlier today that running back Daniel Porter of the College of San Mateo received a scholarship offer from San Jose State. Inside Sparta spoke with Porter and he updated us on the state of his recruiting.

Rumors are the lifeblood of internet message boards and today a rumor surfaced regarding 6-foot-0, 195-pound running back Daniel Porter, recently graduated from the College of San Mateo (Calif). The rumor was that Porter had finally received a coveted Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly D-1A) scholarship offer, and that offer was reportedly fron San Jose State.

Nope, I haven't gotten an offer from San Jose State," Porter said with surprise. "I haven't gotten any offers from D-1A schools yet. I did take a visit to Idaho State (Football Championship Subdivision - formerly D-IAA) and they offered, but I didn't commit."

While Porter hasn't yet received an offer from any schools in the NCAA's top echelon, he is interested in one local school. "I like San Jose State a lot," he said. "If they offered I would certainly consider committing right away. I've been down there for a couple games and I really like their offensive coordinator (Steve Morton)."

"I'm all purpose and I can do whatever a team needs me to do," Porter reently told JCFootball.com.

Porter rushed for 823-yards and five touchdowns in 2008. He is also reported to have clocked a 4.3 in the 40-yard-dash. The speedster said he likes the Spartan offense and enjoyed his visits during the Fresno State and Boise State games in 2008.

No camps or combines are on the calendar at this time for Porter, but that doesn't mean he's not interested in getting his name out there. "I'm sending out a lot of tape right now," he said. "I'll try and check out some camps, but right now I don't have any set up, or any visits scheduled."
