SJSU Hockey Gets Win No. 20
San Jose State Hockey

The San Jose State Ice Hockey team ran its season record to 20-0-1 this weekend with wins over Virginia and Utah State. The Spartans struggled in the win over the Cavaliers on Friday, but looked strong against a determined Aggie squad on Saturday.

In what Spartan Head Coach Ron Glasow called "the worst played game of the season" the San Jose State Ice Hockey team barely managed to hang on against a hard-charging Virginia Cavalier attack for the 9-7 win on Friday.

The two teams clawed through two periods, with the first ending in a 1-1 tie. The Spartans emerged from the second period with a slim 4-3 lead, then exploded in the third to jump ahead 8-3. However, the Cavaliers were far from finished and got back to within two, midway through the third period. SJSU hung on to preserve the victory, even though it wasn't pretty.

Saturday was a completely different story. As has happened throughout the season, the Spartans rebounded after struggling and being challenged. Glasow was pleased with the Spartan effort, even though the score was closer. "This was a good Utah State team," he said. "We put the lines back the way they've been and everyone worked much better."

The victory over USU was the third-straight Spartan win over the Aggies.

SJSU will play BYU in a two-game series this weekend, which will be the final homestand of the 2005-2006 season. The games will be at Logitech Ice in San Jose. Face-off on Friday will be at 7:45 p.m., with Saturday's match at 7:00 p.m.
