DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced today that ABC-TV will televise two conference football games this upcoming season. On October 1, ABC will show Nevada at San Jose State followed by the Fresno State at Hawai‘i game on October 29. Both games will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
The Nevada-San Jose State game will feature the two winningest coaches in the WAC. The Wolf Pack are coached by College Football Hall of Famer Chris Ault who is in his third stint with Nevada. He has a record of 168-70-1. San Jose State is under the direction of first-year head coach Dick Tomey who has won 158 games in his 24-year career.
The Fresno State-Hawai‘i game involves two teams that have competed for the WAC championship and bowl berths over the last several seasons. The Bulldogs have played in six consecutive bowl games, the longest current streak of any team in the western United States. Hawai‘i has won at least eight games in five of the last six years and has played in three straight bowl games.
Both games will be shown in approximately 18 percent of the country including the states of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii and parts of Idaho.
“We are pleased that ABC is giving us the opportunity for this exposure on the West Coast,” said WAC Commissioner Karl Benson. “We hope this is just the beginning for regular appearances on ABC Sports.”
The ABC appearances are the first for WAC teams since the 1998 season when the network televised three contests involving WAC members.
