Few quarterbacks have thrown at more camps than Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian’s Jihad Vercher.
And even fewer have looked better this spring and summer.
Yet Vercher still only has an offer from Northern Arizona, which he got last summer.
This week, though, Vercher will camp at San Jose State, and he’s hopeful a good performance there will net him that elusive first FBS offer.
“I’m going up to the San Jose State camp, and they’ve been talking to me pretty heavy, so hopefully it will come through,” said Vercher.
Working in Vercher’s favor is the offensive coordinator for the Spartans, Brian Lindgren.
“Their quarterback coach and the offensive coordinator, Coach Lindgren, recruited me at Northern Arizona and offered me there,” said Lindgren.
Vercher is also hearing somewhat from Colorado and UCLA, who both have quarterback verbals already, as well as Minnesota and Washington State, but nothing has been serious on those ends.
So the San Jose State camp will have a big impact on Vercher.
“I’m pretty confident that I’ll do well and hopefully get that offer,” said Vercher. “I went to their camp in Los Angeles and I think that’s what made them want me back at this camp. I’ll just go out and do what I can and do.”
