SJSU Men's Hoops Signs JC Forward

Louis Garrett, a 6-foot-6 forward from Salt Lake Community College, signed a National Letter-of-Intent to enroll at San Jose State University for the Fall 2012 semester and become a member of the men's basketball team. George Nessman, San Jose State's head coach, made the announcement.

Soon to be 22-years-old, Garrett finished his sophomore season as a starter for the Salt Lake Community College team that posted a 22-9 win-loss record and finished second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. He averaged 8.9 points a game for the high-scoring Bruins that had six players average between 8.0 and 10.6 points a game under first-year coach Todd Phillips.

"Louis is a mature and focused young man who had an excellent year at Salt Lake City CC. He excelled in the classroom and on the court. Louis has good length, plays a tough-minded style and has good bounce in his game. He can shoot from distance and finish above the rim," says Nessman about the team's first signing during the 2012 spring period. "Louis will be a very good addition to our program."

Garrett played his freshman year at the College of Southern Idaho in the 2008-09 season before serving a church mission in Borneo. He was a two-time, first-team all-state forward for Pine View High School in St. George, Utah.

Garrett joins 6-foot-9 transfer Chris Cunningham as newcomers to the 2012-13 team. Cunningham, a junior-to-be, played his first two seasons at Santa Clara University prior to transferring to San Jose State last fall.
