As often happens in the world of coaching, the San Jose State football staff has experience a bit of a recent shakeup.

It's not uncommon, as a matter of fact it could almost be called ritual, that coaching staffs will be shuffled during the off-season, especially among assistants. Such is the case with the San Jose State football staff.

It had been rumored for a while that running backs and special teams coach Kirk Doll had returned to his alma mater - East Carolina University. On Tuesday the university announced the hiring.

Doll spend one season with the Spartans after coaching in the United Football League. He'll return to the Pirates with the same positions he held at SJSU. He graduated from ECU in 1974.

The website Footballscoop.com reported on Tuesday that Menlo College head coach Fred Guidici will be named special teams coordinator at SJSU, though no confirmation has yet been released.

Guidici is a San Jose State graduate who spent 14 years at Menlo Park, the last three as head coach. Guidici had coaching stints with the Oakland Raiders of the NFL, and San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League. He also spent spent two seasons at Stanford.
