Dillihunt Talks SJSU Visit; Possible Transfer

Former Fresno State athlete Edward Dillihunt is seeking another school to continue is athletic and academic pursuits. He visited San Jose State last weekend to see if they're the place for him to do so. Inside Sparta spoke with him upon his return about offers and when he wants to decide.

When a player sees his chances of getting on the field are limited at his program of choice, often the only option available to him is to move on, seeking a place where he can spend more time on the greener pasture of the gridiron. Such is the case with athlete Edward Dillihunt, originally of Tulare (Calif) Union High School, who signed with Fresno State in February 2010 because of his close relationship with head coach Pat Hill. The Bulldogs staff move him to the defensive side of the ball and at first Dillihunt felt he was ready for the transition.

After a redshirt season, the Central Valley star opted to make the move to offense. However, spots were limited and the FSU staff wanted to keep him on the defensive side of the ball. After weighing his options, Dillihunt made the decision in mid-season of this year to leave the Fresno State football program. As such he's looking for a new college home.

Dillihunt was on the campus of San Jose State his past weekend to see if the upward moving Spartans would be that new home. It was his first visit to San Jose.

"The trip went really well," he said. "We toured the campus and the library, which was really cool."

The visit was unofficial, and Dillihunt said no offer was tendered. He added that he still needs to send his transcripts to San Jose State, and that he'll do so soon.

"As far as an offer and setting up an official they told me they want to wait for my transcripts," he said. "They did tell me they wanted me for offense, which is where I want to play."

The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Dillihunt said he will finish this semester on scholarship at Fresno State, and if another opportunity doesn't come up before the next term he'll stay at FSU while he searches, though without an athletic grant-in-aid.
