Christian Tago Visits San Jose State
Quarterback/Linebacker Christian Tago of Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif., chose SJSU over offers from San Diego State, UC Davis, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
"I'd been up there in the summer for one of their camps," Tago said. "But this trip was the first time I'd gotten a look at the campus and a lot of the facilities."
In an earlier conversation, Tago mentioned he was waiting for a Pac 12 offer. That desire now appears to be moot.
"I was already solid to San Jose State," he said. "The trip made it even more solid. I'll graduate in May and start the Bridge Program in July."
The 6-foot-0, 219-pound Tago can play on either side of the ball. While most project him on the defensive side at the next level, he will get a shot to play on offense.
"The coaches told me I'd get a chance to compete for the quarterback spot," he said.
Tago threw for 2596 yards on the season, an average of 236 yards-per-game, along with 27 touchdowns. He also rushed for 415 yards with 10 TDs. He was named a Lemming Top 25 Pro-Style Quarterback while leading the Bulldogs to a 9-2 record.
On defense he racked up 63 tackles, including 3-1/2 sacks and a fumble recovery.
If the Spartans should ever need a punter, Tago may be able to jump into that roll as well. As the Bulldog punter he averaged just over 35 yards a boot, with a longest of 65 yards.
