Rutley Still a Game-Time Decision

San Jose State running back Brandon Rutley, a major force in the SJSU offensive attack, will know by kickoff whether he'll play against BYU as the Spartans take on the Cougars in Provo, Utah.

San Jose State senior running back Brandon Rutley, who has rushed for 340 yards in the past two games, will have to wait until just before kickoff to know whether he'll continue to power the Spartan offensive attack, SJSU head coach Mike MacIntyre said Saturday morning, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

To give you an insight into how important Rutley is to the Spartan offensive, against Colorado State last week he rushed 23 times for 131 yards. After he went out SJSU had just six yards on 14 carries.

With junior running back David Freeman out for the season the Spartans will need to rely on sophomore Jason Simpson and freshman Ben Thompson to pick up the reigns of the SJSU rushing attack, should Rutley stay sidelined.

San Jose State (2-3) goes for its second-straight road win this evening, something that hasn't happened since 1982, long before the current team was born.

Kickoff is at 8:15 MDT (7:15 (PDT) and will be shown on ESPNU.
